Early Years
We feel passionately that FS2/Reception is a vital year it is and believe that warm and positive relationships between staff and children, consistent routines and strong relationships with parents are key in developing their own future attitude and confidence to school. We foster an everyone can achieve approach to ensure that all are children make good progress.
In FS2, our Curriculum offers a wide variety of rich experiences that are crucial to child development. We see children as confident and capable learners, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
At St Sampson’s we have used the changes in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2021 to improve daily life for both the children and the teachers. We actively promote the welfare of all of our children. There are seven areas of learning and development that shape activities and experiences for children. Of these areas, three – known as the prime areas – are vital for igniting children’s curiosity and building their capacity to learn and form relationships. These are communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development. The three prime areas are strengthened and applied through the four specific areas: literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design.
We prioritise creating a ‘language rich’ environment through the use of songs, nursery rhymes, stories and providing time for quality interactions between adults and between peers. Our teachers get to know our children as individuals. We plan and facilitate exciting learning opportunities that include both adult and child led experiences. Our children have access to a teacher, teaching assistant, indoor and outdoor learning areas.
Our staff enjoy teaching Reception and our children thrive into confident and skilful learners.
